HST rebate continues to boost sales of new single-family homes in GTA but condo segment remains sluggish: report

The enhanced HST rebate—now up to $130,000—continues to make waves in the GTA new home market. In Q2 2026, we saw new home sales across Ontario jump by 130%, reaching 8,410 units sold. While single-family homes are leading this surge, the condo market is still finding its footing. These increased sales are not just numbers—they translate into real benefits for our communities: 17,300 construction jobs supported, $2.8B in GDP preserved, and $1.4B in government revenue maintained.

As someone committed to making the real estate process simple and transparent for buyers, sellers, and investors in Milton, Oakville, Mississauga, Hamilton, and beyond, I see firsthand how government incentives can shape opportunities. If you’re exploring your next move—whether a new build, resale, or investment—understanding these market shifts can help you make confident, informed decisions. For me, it’s always about providing honest advice and building relationships that last well beyond the transaction.

  • Will Canada’s Rates Rise Again in 2027? | Don’t hesitate to get in touch for any query. -226-883-4455 -realtorjpgill@gmail.com

With the Bank of Canada currently maintaining its rate at 2.25%, there’s growing conversation around what might be ahead for interest rates in 2027. Several major banks are forecasting gradual increases that year. For those of us keeping a close watch on economic trends, stronger growth could open the door for policymakers to lift rates further—especially if inflation stays stubborn.

What does that mean if you’re planning your next move in real estate? Higher rates can mean increased borrowing costs for both households and businesses, but they may also lead to improved returns on savings and fixed-income investments. For investors and homebuyers alike, it’s important to consider how a less accommodative environment could shape your options.

My approach is always to keep things simple, transparent, and stress-free, no matter how the market shifts. Whether you’re buying, selling, or exploring investment opportunities, I’m here to help you navigate these changes with confidence and clarity—so you can make the right move for your future.

  • Toronto Starts Fall Short of Target | Don’t hesitate to get in touch for any query. -226-883-4455 -realtorjpgill@gmail.com

Recently, Toronto’s housing starts have dipped 10% compared to last year—a clear signal that construction activity has slowed, especially in our city’s vibrant urban core. Right now, there are 37 building permits on file for 6,600 condominium apartment units that have yet to break ground. It’s important to remember that many of these projects may still move forward, since pre-sales often happened well before the recent slowdown in sales activity.

Housing-start data often lags what’s actually happening on the ground. Major projects in Toronto move through lengthy planning, pre-sale, and permit stages before shovels ever hit the soil. So, the numbers we see today might not fully capture the real-time pace of activity, and some of those permitted condos could still begin construction as the pipeline advances.

For clients and investors, this highlights why it’s so important to look beyond the headlines. My approach is rooted in making the market easy to understand and helping you move forward with clear, honest advice—whether you’re exploring pre-construction opportunities or weighing your next investment. Real estate decisions feel a lot less stressful when you have the right information and a relationship built on trust.

Happy Labour Day! Wishing you a relaxed, fun-filled long weekend with good food, no alarms, and maximum enjoyment before fall shows up uninvited.

Prices expected to remain weak or decline in early 2026, especially in high-density segments, before stabilizing toward late-year recovery.
